I know many people were hit w/ this. But since I had issues w/ another hosting account, this really didn't bother me as much. I believe everyone hosting w/ dreamhost was hit w/ a billing overcharge issue; and reading the status of all the angry people is kind of unbelievable. Some of the comments are understandable, but.... I don't know. If you're hosted w/ dreamhost and you're unaware of the billing issues, please visit this site for an update on what's happening.
The thing that struck me funny was the way the email was written that notified me of a payment withdrawal. It said:
This is just a notice that your DreamHost Account has a balance of $237.81 (including any charges not due until 2009-01-11), with $237.81 due (since 2008-12-11).

You also have $237.81 past due (owed since 2008-11-11), and if by 2009-01-11 you do not pay at least the $237.81 part, your account will be automatically suspended until payment is received.
Notice the dates? LOL. Hrm... I expect dreamhost will lose a lot of customers over this. I will continue to stay because they have a good uptime and their support is prompt. This excludes the hacking incident that happened where I received no support other than "it's your fault". That and I'm too lazy. I have opened commenting if anyone wants to comment about this.
I did notice Tara made a comment about this on the status page. I'll have to visit her site and spy on her a little bit.

Yeah, it's strange how every time Dreamhost makes a human mistake, people like to gang up on them. Me? I've been with them since 2001, and through all the issues they've gone through, I never really got above annoyed with them.

Sure, I get annoyed with downtimes like everyone else, but I understand that no hosting provider will be up 100%. And now with this whole rebilling issue? At least they discovered it and are working on fixing it. And now people are ganging up on them for being unprofessional about that blog entry of theirs... Perhaps they shouldn't have written that, but at least they were trying to diffuse the situation down a bit, however way they might have gone wrong about it.
